It’s never easy to say goodbye to a beloved pet. Fairwood Plaza wants to help make this difficult time as manageable as possible by providing compassionate, dignified end-of-life services for your pet.
When is it Time?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions we receive. It’s challenging to answer, as this is a deeply personal decision for you and your family. When evaluating your pet’s quality of life, please consider scheduling a consultation with one of our veterinarians. We can help provide honest and empathetic support. Some pet owners may find it helpful to use a quality-of-life scale, such as this one from Lap of Love, to help determine if it’s time.
Scheduling Your Appointment
While we recommend scheduling end-of-life care appointments in advance when possible, we understand that these situations can change rapidly. We will always do our best to accommodate urgent needs. Scheduling ahead allows us to ensure a private room is available and gives you time to prepare. Please call us at (425) 226-9960 to discuss your specific situation.
Pet Euthanasia: What to Expect
When the time comes to say goodbye, our staff will ensure that you and your pet are treated with the kindness and dignity you deserve in a calm and caring environment. At your pet’s appointment, we’ll strive to ensure you and your pet are in a quiet, private room and allow you to take all the time you need to say goodbye. If you like, you may bring any special items you or your pet may find comforting, such as a favorite blanket, treats, or toy.
A member of our team will go over the consent form with you and answer any questions you may have. The actual euthanasia process involves two steps. First, your pet will be given an injectable sedative that will make them get sleepy. You will have roughly 5 – 20 minutes to spend with your pet while they relax. Once your pet is peaceful and you feel ready, the Veterinarian or Licensed Veterinary Technician will administer a large dose of anesthesia that will result in a deep, painless sleep and a smooth transition to death. Your pet will peacefully pass within moments, experiencing no pain or distress. The process is gentle and designed to be as stress-free as possible for both you and your pet.
